Keeping Up with Motor Oil Technology
The American Petroleum Institute (API) recently released a new heavy-duty engine oil specification to replace API CJ-4. The new API CK-4 service category for diesel engine oil has been in development for about a decade and will deliver improved fuel economy performance and reduce emissions. Known as PC-11A during its developmental phase, CK-4 oils supersede the old specification with improved oxidation and aeration performance while maintaining the same viscosity and high temperature high shear range as CJ-4 products.
MFA Oil Company reformulated its Premium Heavy Duty engine oils to meet and exceed the API specifications for CK-4. Don North, MFA Oil director of product development and quality control, says CK-4 oils are fully backwards compatible with CJ-4 oils, so there’s no risk in blending the two in engines.
“We are committed to staying up-to-date with our lubricant technology,” North says. “We always start with the latest API specs and go beyond them to offer the best quality products to our customers.”
The following MFA Oil Premium Heavy Duty Engine Oils carry the CK-4 specification: 5W-40, 10W-30 and 15W-40.
